The Valley of the Sun JCC had its beginnings in downtown Phoenix in 1943. Since then, it has moved to several locations, finally making its home on the southeast corner of Sweetwater and Scottsdale Road in 2002.

The inclusive not-for-profit community center welcomes people of all faiths, backgrounds and abilities.

“From the programs offered, to the people served, The J is a place where everyone is welcome,” said Jay Jacobs, CEO. “Many people are surprised to learn that you don’t have to be Jewish to come to The J.”

The J offers a variety of programs to pique interests and to engage minds and bodies, from infants to seniors.

Fitness & Aquatics Centers
The J features a 50,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art fitness center with the latest in cardio and weight equipment, two incredible indoor gyms, an indoor track, Pilates and spin studios, as well as more than 80 group fitness classes each week.

With stunning mountain views, two sparkling pools, a splash pad and other amenities, even non-swimmers come to enjoy The J’s oasis-like environment with family and friends.

The 11-lane competition-size pool is heated for year-round swim, including academy, team, masters, water polo and more. The activity pool is perfect for aqua-fitness classes, lessons and water basketball and volleyball. In addition, there is a 26-foot auto-belay rock climbing tower.

“Though most people join The J for our incredible fitness and aquatics centers, they stay because of the true community atmosphere. People know your name here, not just the staff, but also each other,” said Jacobs. “In addition, we have a wide variety of programs for all ages, interests and abilities.”

Preschool
The J’s award-winning, accredited preschool program nurtures each child’s natural curiosity, intelligence and interests. With low ratios and personal attention, children ages six weeks to Pre-K flourish.

Youth & Camp Programs
From its quality afterschool program and enrichment classes, to youth sports and swim, The J has something for children of all ages and interests.

For more than 60 years, The J’s Shemesh Summer and Holiday Camps have been providing children with adventures, friendships and memories to last a lifetime! Each week is filled with exciting experiences, activities and field trips.

Sports
The J is the place for sports with two incredible gymnasiums, sports courts and manicured fields. Youth soccer and basketball leagues build skills, confidence and sportsmanship among boys and girls. From competitive and recreational adult basketball leagues, and racquetball and pickleball, The J has a variety of sports and recreation opportunities for all ages and skill levels.

Harold & Jean Grossman Parkinson’s Program
Key to the program’s success is the Parkinson’s Wellness & Recovery series known as PWR!TM. Each level features research-based, integrated exercises that optimize the brain’s ability to form new neural connections. The program also includes Parkinson’s boxing, cycling and education and wellness days.

“Research shows that the type of exercises and movements included in our Parkinson’s programs greatly improve balance, strength, coordination and quality of life. Though it is not a cure, it has been shown to slow the progression of the disease,” said Jacobs.

Seniors
The J is the place for our community’s seniors to meet old friends, make new friends and to try something new. There are a variety of fitness and wellness classes, as well as exciting Culture & Learning opportunities to get together and to learn.
