There’s a place in Phoenix designed to bring out your inner rock star (or inner Mozart, if you prefer). A studio setting where musicians of all ages learn to pick, pluck, and play. Welcome to Strum University. This talent-rich hub of the North Phoenix music community offers lessons in piano, guitar (acoustic or electric), bass, ukulele, violin, and voice. Their one-on-one instruction in a private studio setting makes it ideal both for beginners as well as for piano lesson dropouts looking to pick up where they left off.
What makes Strum University unique is their commitment to not only teaching music, but also in supporting students with everything from performance tips, songwriting, shopping for an instrument, and even helping put together gig-ready bands. Every one of their instructors is a professional musician with a passion for teaching. Students get top-tier instruction from patient and enthusiastic teachers who love music.
Once students build a firm foundation of music, they have the option of signing up for Rock Band. This exclusive hands-on program allows student musicians to collaborate as a band – with weekly rehearsals, song writing, and professional instruction in areas such as song composition, stage presence, and basic sound engineering. When your band finds its sound, you’ll be performing several times each year at a variety of venues, while continuing to write original music and learn cover songs.
Although performing is not mandatory, Strum University offers a series of performance events that allow individual students to show off their chops in front of a live audience. Students can perform onstage in Strum’s very own performance theater, or take their talents to open mic nights at local coffee house venues.
Even with no registration fees or long-term commitments, students at Strum University stay an average of two years. That’s great news for parents who are weary of seeing their kids quit their latest activity after a month or two. Lessons at are affordable – and the first lesson is always free!
