Did you know? March 5-11 is National Spring Cleaning Week!

For some of us, the phase “Spring Cleaning” can send us into an unwanted state of panic. Flashes of that one cluttered closet may come to mind and completely discourage you from the seasonal tidying trend.

The key is to know when to sell, donate or toss unwanted items. Before you give up, we have a formula to help you tackle this overwhelming task.

When to Sell:

Even with convenient apps and websites, selling can be a time-consuming task, so first you need to determine how much time you want to dedicate to selling.

What are you more willing to give up, time or money? You need to determine the need to make money versus just wanting to declutter. Do what’s best for you and stick to your ultimate goal.

Next determine if there is a demand for the item. Great things to sell include: electronics, antiques, watches, bicycles, trendy fashion pieces and Legos.

Finally, it is time to sell. Make sure you prepare the object properly, this means cleaning, photographing, listing the item on social media, and delivering the item.

When to Donate:

Donating can be difficult, because the hardest part is being honest with yourself. Will you actually wear that sweater your grandma gave you in 2014? If the answer is no, it is time to consider donating the item.

Don’t feel guilty! These items are going to help others in need and increase their quality of life.

So, what are good items to donate? Donate things that are in great condition but are not worth the time of selling, for instance: clothes, toiletries, blankets, luggage and school supplies.

When to Toss:

Congratulations, you have made it to the final step of Spring Cleaning. You are now left with the items that are not worth selling and cannot be donated, so now it is time to toss.

Letting go of material objects will not only organize your home but help clear your mind. Stop holding onto things you don’t need and feel the weight being lifted off your shoulders!
