Fashion Week 4 Kids Returns to the Runway
Fashion Week 4 Kids (FW4K) and Steve LeVine Entertainment & Public Relations (SLE) are hosting the 7th annual Fashion Week 4 Kids event on Sat., Nov. 5 at Desert Ridge Marketplace. The festivities include a full day of fashion shows, family-friendly entertainment, and children’s activities. FW4K caters to children, families, and the fashion industry by showcasing high-quality entertainment and current children’s fashion collections from national designers and brands.
For the second year in a row, FW4Kids will partner with The Johnjay & Rich #LoveUp Foundation, and Arizona’s Department of Child Safety (DCS) to help support the mission to spread kindness and to positively impact children facing life in the foster care system. JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa Undergoes $80 Million Renovation
JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa announced the completion of the first phase of its $80 million renovation, which coincides with the property’s 20th anniversary this year. The resort is spread across 316 acres and has 869 guest rooms and 81 suites.
The first phase of the multi-million-dollar, multi-phase project includes a complete renovation of the guest rooms and suites, along with adding new patio furniture and fire pits to first-floor rooms, and the addition of in-room Peloton bikes. Upgraded lounge seating in the lobby, as well as new chandeliers and added greenery in common spaces as part of the upgrades. The resort also debuted a new flagship restaurant. Tia Carmen showcases contemporary Southwestern cuisine and is headed by executive chef Angelo Sosa, who’s appeared multiple times on the show “Top Chef.”
Work starts in October on an $18 million expansion of the pool areas and three water slides.
Experience Mexico at the Musical Instrument Museum
Celebrate the colorful sights and diverse sounds of Mexico’s rich musical traditions during the Musical Instrument Museum’s (MIM) Experience Mexico event. Go beyond familiar genres with live performances and workshops and experience the MIM’s robust collection of Mexican instruments on Oct. 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Activities include creating maracas and a Spanish language workshop, while performances include Ollin Yoliztli Dance Academy and Mariachi Valle del Sol. Supported by the Phoenix Sister Cities Hermosillo Committee with programing supported in part by the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture and Arizona Commission on the Arts, this event is included with paid museum admission and is free for MIM members. Fall Concert Series at Kierland Commons
Kierland Commons’ Fall Concert Series is back in October. Enjoy live music from local bands every Saturday between Oct. 1 to 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the center plaza. The musical lineup includes:
Oct. 1: Kyle Phelan—Singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Phelan’s performances include a mix of blues and country, slow jams, soul covers, and original music.
Oct. 8: Stanley Serrano—Singer, songwriter, musician, and producer, Serrano plays an impressive list of songs that many people enjoy.
Oct. 15: Vinyl Station—Vinyl Station is a Phoenix rock band that plays regularly across the Valley.
Oct. 22: Colton Avery—A singer-songwriter from Phoenix who’s released the popular album “Waves,” Avery has built a following in the Southwest.
