North Valley Symphony Orchestra (NVSO) is pleased to present its eighth orchestral season, bringing an affordable concert experience to communities of the Phoenix North Valley.
The 2019-20 concert season includes four extraordinary music performances throughout the year beginning with “A Scandinavian Tour,” on Saturday, October 19, 7:00 p.m. at North Canyon High School Auditorium, 1700 E. Union Hills Drive.
NVSO kicks off the 2019-20 concert season with an evening of music that evokes the misty fjords, rugged mountains and deep forests of Scandinavia. Travel to Scandinavian countries without even leaving Phoenix, with masterpieces that include Svendsen’s Two Swedish Folksongs (Sweden), Nielsen’s Helios Overture (Denmark), Sibelius’ Karelia Suite, Op. 11(Finland), and Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite #1 and #2 (Norway). This concert may entice you to book your next vacation to Scandinavia! If it does, call concert sponsor Dave Rodrigues with Cruise Planners.
The season also includes:
December 14 7:00 pm and December 15 3:00 pm– “Christmas Pops” – Join NVSO for a family-friendly concert with Christmas favorites, a carol sing-a-long and a visit from Santa!
Evening and matinee concerts will be performed. There’s always a visit from Santa, and children and adults alike enjoy the ‘free’ photo opportunity with the big guy. We have a wonderful partnership with a local photographer, who provides a free download of your photo. The December 14 concert is sponsored by IMed.
March 2020 (TBD) – “Women in Music” – NVSO recognizes the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage by performing music composed by women, including award winning composer Joan Tower’s Sixth Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman.
Our spring concert is also when we introduce the winner of the annual Summerford Violin Concerto Competition, and this young musician will play their new prize violin for the audience. This concert is sponsored by CASCO Financial.
May 2020 (TBD) – “Across America” – Enjoy music inspired by America, including Route 66, music by American Indian composer Jerod Tate, and Dvořák’s beloved New World Symphony. We are looking “Across America” for a concert sponsor.
NVSO is committed to making concert tickets affordable for all. Ticket prices are $5.00 each concert, or $15.00 for a full Season Pass to include all four concerts. Purchase tickets at the NVSO website, www.northvalleysymphony.org, or by calling 623-980-4628.
Those new to classical performances might enjoy learning more about what the composer is trying to convey in the music — with the Music Director’s brief ‘chat’ before each piece, audience members will know what to listen for and gain more appreciation for classical composition.
NVSO is supported by the Arizona Commission on the Arts with funding from the State of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts, with partial funding provided by the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture through appropriations from the Phoenix City Council.
