After seven years of service to the residents of Peoria, Councilmember Bridget Binsbacher announced her resignation to run for Peoria mayor. Mayor Cathy Carlat is currently serving in the last year of her second and final term, which ends January 2023.

“It has been my honor to serve the Mesquite District for the past seven years,” says Binsbacher. “I thank the residents who put their trust in me to represent them.”
Binsbacher was elected in March 2015 to represent the Mesquite District. She was re-elected in 2016 and 2020. As an elected official, she served two terms as Vice Mayor and represented the City of Peoria in regional and statewide organizations, including the Maricopa Association of Governments Transportation Policy Committee and the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association board. She also served as the education liaison for the city, which most recently established the PeoriaAZ Promise scholarship program.

The Peoria City Charter outlines a specific process for filling council vacancies. As of press time, an interim Mesquite District councilmember was not yet selected.

The election will be held on November 8 for the offices of the mayor and Acacia, Palo Verde and Pine District councilmembers. A special election will also be held on the same day to fill the vacancy created for the Mesquite District council seat.
