EMD Electronics Expands Operations in Chandler, Creating Jobs and Strengthening the Semiconductor Ecosystem

In a move that promises to bolster the local economy and contribute to the flourishing semiconductor industry in the Valley, EMD Electronics celebrated the grand opening of its new Chandler factory in October. This significant investment marks a major milestone for both the company and the Chandler community.

The newly inaugurated facility, part of the company’s “Level Up” growth program announced in late 2021, boasts a spacious 75,000-square-foot building. This expansion effectively doubles EMD Electronics’ manufacturing capacity in the United States, a key step in its mission to produce state-of-the-art equipment for its Delivery Systems & Services (DS&S) business. DS&S specializes in providing high-quality delivery and storage solutions for specialty chemicals and gases.

The grand opening event witnessed the presence of notable figures, including Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke. Senator Mark Kelly also delivered a video message. The event brought together industry leaders, representatives from the city of Chandler, the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, the Arizona Commerce Authority, and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC).

EMD Electronics’ new facility adds to the reputation of Arizona as a hub for advanced semiconductor operations, according to Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority.

The investment in this new site, which began operations in June 2023, is part of the company’s commitment to strengthening supply chain resilience and supporting a skilled talent pipeline. With an efficient manufacturing design, the factory can produce GASGUARD and CHEMGUARD systems, effectively doubling Merck’s manufacturing capacity in the U.S. The facility also includes a 6,000-square-foot clean room and a 2,000-square-foot training center.

Since starting operations, EMD Electronics has hired over 100 employees, and the company has implemented programs to nurture talent pipelines in collaboration with educational institutions and organizations in the region.

This expansion aligns with EMD Electronics’ global commitment to meet the growing demand for semiconductor equipment and services, positioning Chandler at the forefront of the semiconductor industry’s future.
