Utility Rate Increase Effective July 1
In response to the rising costs necessary to maintain a secure water and solid waste infrastructure, utility rates in Peoria will see an increase starting July 1. The average residential customer’s total utility bill will rise by approximately 8.4%, equating to an additional $8.36 per month.

This increase includes a $5.46 monthly hike for water and sewer services, based on a ¾-inch meter, 10,000-gallon water usage, and 8,000-gallon sewer usage. Additionally, garbage and recycling rates will increase by $2.90 per month.

For non-residential customers, the rate increases will vary depending on several factors, including meter size, usage, flow-based EPA charges, container size, and the number of pickups required.

Major Maintenance Project for Peoria City Hall Begins in July
Starting in July, Peoria City Hall will undergo a significant $2.4 million roof replacement and weatherization improvement project. Despite the presence of scaffolding and construction activity, the building at 8401 W. Monroe St. will remain fully accessible to both the public and staff throughout the renovation.

Clear signage will be placed to guide visitors to entrances during the construction period. Peoria City Hall’s operating hours are Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding holidays.

The Peoria Municipal Complex, including city hall, is over 30 years old and in need of substantial maintenance. The upcoming project, spread over the next year, will involve replacing the roof and enhancing the building envelope’s weather resistance.

The roof repair will be executed in two phases over the next eight months, weather permitting. The first phase, from July to November, will focus on the east and center buildings. The second phase will begin in November, targeting the western portion of city hall, and is expected to conclude by March 2025.

Beyond roof replacement, crews will address deteriorating fascia, soffits, skylights, balcony patios, masonry, and glazing joint systems.

These essential repairs and investments in city hall’s maintenance will ensure the building’s functionality and serviceability for another 25 years.
Peoria Seeks Public Input on Housing Needs Assessment
The city of Peoria is reaching out to residents for their input on affordable housing and community development needs for the next five years. This community feedback will help shape the city’s strategies and goals for utilizing funds from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME).

Three public hearings have been scheduled to gather information and feedback from the community. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) mandates the Five-Year Consolidated Plan (ConPlan) to ensure Peoria continues to receive annual funding as a CDBG entitlement city. The insights gained from these hearings will assist the city in addressing housing and community development needs effectively and may guide the allocation of additional resources for community benefit.

Residents are encouraged to attend one of the remaining public hearings:
• Monday, July 8, 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Rio Vista Recreation Center, Riverside Room, 8866 W. Thunderbird Rd. (Virtually and in-person)
• Tuesday, July 9, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sunrise Mountain Library, Community Room, 21109 N. 98th Ave. (Virtually and in-person)

In addition to the public hearings, residents can provide input through an online community survey available until September 30 at research.net/r/peoria-community.
