The Kiwanis of Carefree recently hosted its annual “Evening of Excellence” Scholarship Awards Program, celebrating the achievements of local graduating students. The event, presided over by Kiwanis President Linda Wright, saw the distribution of 30 scholarships totaling $564,000 to deserving students from the Carefree and Cave Creek areas.
The scholarships, categorized into four-year awards, two-year community college awards, technical and trade school awards, and merit scholarships, were presented to the recipients as their accomplishments and chosen colleges were announced. A large screen projected photos of the awardees alongside their college selections as they crossed the stage to receive their awards from the scholarship committee.
Janet Busbee, chair of the scholarship committee, congratulated the awardees and read their names during the ceremony. The event was highlighted by a keynote address from NFL veteran and Super Bowl champion Ryan Harris, who delivered an inspiring motivational speech that resonated with students and attendees alike.
The success of the “Evening of Excellence” was made possible by the generous contributions from community members who donate to and shop at the Kiwanis Marketplace. Their support plays a crucial role in funding these scholarships and helping students recognize and develop their potential.
