An original local spot, 32 Shea has been ingraining itself into the North 32nd community since early 2011. This year on National Burrito Day, celebrated on April 7, an integral community partnership between 32 Shea and Civitan Foundation highlights an organization that is enhancing the quality of life for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
32 Shea partners with Civitan Foundation to provide opportunities through its Adult Life Learning Program. Program participants help with prep for 32 Shea’s famous breakfast burritos that the community loves. The famous New Mexico burrito features egg, potatoes, cheese, avocado, bacon, and is finished with homemade green salsa. This salsa is a number one request for the restaurant to begin bottling because of its popularity in the neighborhood. It may also now be a favorite menu item because of the community ties.
“For 32 Shea, our mission is to always support local faces and happy places, so partnering with groups that our guests are passionate about is what we aim to achieve,” says Janeth Moore, Director of Operations for 32 Shea.
Through Civitan’s Adult Life Learning Program, members can take culinary and nutrition instruction at its facility. This program teaches its members about food preparation and safety, well-balanced meals, proper use of cooking utensils, developing recipes, and gardening. The program also has fully accessible garden beds for members to help with planting, growing, and caring for many of the vegetables and herbs used in the kitchen.
32 Shea has been partnering with Civitan for several years. The culinary education is an annual program provided by the organization.
Along with its breakfast menu, 32 Shea offers an espresso bar, counter service for lunch and full-service dinner in its intimate lounge. Neighbors can enjoy the serene, dog-friendly patio for daily 12-hour Happy Hour from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Guests can find the urban dining spot at 10626 N. 32nd Street.
