After years standing vacant, a parcel of land near Deer Valley Road and Lake Pleasant Parkway that was intended for use in the Camino a Lago South community is finally being prepared for construction.
The 126-acre plot of land is being developed and built by the D. R. Horton, Inc. Phoenix division and will feature 470 homes for individuals and families spread over five parcels of land upon completion.
Homes in the first section of the community were built between 2007 and 2012, but construction on the rest of the project has been halted a number of times since then. Sara Tuchscher, a D. R. Horton, Inc. home sales representative who helped sell the first phase of the Camino a Lago community, says that she is excited to bring this gem back to life as the company works to complete sales and construction on parcel 1.
Homes in the project will range from 1,600-3,250 square feet with 12 floor plans currently available to virtually tour online. According to D. R. Horton, two model homes are currently under construction and sales are expected to begin later this fall and parcel 1 of the project is expected to have 130 lots available for purchase by families and individuals.
Horizontal construction permits have been issued for all five parcels. Other permits such as the at-risk grading and full civil permit were granted in April 2020 and the city of Peoria began issuing the vertical permits for building in May 2021.
The community features outdoor activities, including basketball courts, playgrounds and splash pads. Green spaces throughout the community give families a place to picnic or partake in gatherings. Camino a Lago is located close to dining, shopping and entertainment options, and is within the Peoria Unified School District.
“This is an exciting time to live in Peoria,” says Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat. “Our surroundings are safe and beautiful, and our amenities and quality of life are second to none. Neighborhoods are the heart of our community and I’m pleased to welcome our newest neighbors to Camino a Lago South.”
D. R. Horton’s 126 acres are part of the larger 359-acre Camino a Lago South Planned Area Development originally adopted by the Peoria City Council in 2005, which has seen multiple modifications made to the original plans for the mixed-use development over the years.
