Dad’s Modern Cocktails & Eatery, located at 7337 E. Shea Blvd., quietly opened the beginning of the year, presenting the neighborhood with a new upscale dining and drinking concept that is family owned—and very family friendly. The brainchild of Chef Robert Eckhardt, Mike Anderson, and Bill Machiavello, the business partners, who are also fathers, wanted to create a legacy for their families.
“We love this unpretentious neighborhood and we really wanted to offer the families here a comfortable and casual place where they could enjoy elevated dishes in an all-ages environment,” says Eckhardt. “Dining together is a great tradition for families to start at any age, and we hope to become the go-to place for neighborhood families to enjoy a great meal and create great memories.”
These restaurateurs each bring a wealth of experience to the partnership. Eckhardt has served as a chef in multiple capacities around the Valley including Drexel Modern American, and Anderson has operated restaurants around the world. Together with Machiavello (who has his own impressive culinary resume including WestWorld and M Culinary Concepts), they developed a menu that allows families to enjoy chef-curated dishes, thoughtfully crafted cocktails, items for even the pickiest of little palates, and kid-centric mocktails.
Some of the most tempting menu items include Dad’s short ribs with truffled goat cheese mac and seasoned vegetables, wild mushroom stroganoff, shrimp diablo, and the chicken parmesan sandwich. Dad’s has also become known for its pizzas including classics like margherita and pepperoni as well as the “vegan hater”—a meat lover’s delight.
In addition to ample beer and wine selections, Dad’s cocktail menu features signature sips such as the Mommy Juice made with Pearl citrus vodka, strawberries, lemon juice and Candoni prosecco and the oak smoked old Fashioned with Ezra Brooks 99, demerara, and angostura bitters.
Dad’s is open Wednesday and Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Beginning Sept. 6, the restaurant will also be open Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more info, visit dadsmoderncocktailsandeatery.com.
