Every October, High Street in North Phoenix transforms into a veritable foodie paradise – all to support Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix (BGCMP). Restaurants and beverage experiences line the main street offering up great bites and sips from some of the Valley’s most popular spots.
Presented by Fry’s Food Stores, all proceeds from Dish It Out go towards helping the Clubs provide meals and programs to children in need around the Valley for the next year.
This year’s event is shaping up to be something extra special. On Sunday, October 20 from 5 to 8 p.m., Valley favorites like Ocean Prime, Fleming’s, Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria, Fogo De Chao, Orange Sky, and Unbaked come together to tempt tastebuds and support the Clubs’ mission. Alcoholic beverages will include craft brews from Crescent Crown, including popular brands like Ballast Point, Lagunitas, and San Tan. Breakthru Beverage presents both wine and spirits tastings along the main street. Deep Eddy Vodka will be setting up camp in the Dish It Out VIP section, offering tastings and cocktails in its tricked-out, fully-customized 1946 Spartan Trailer that comes complete with a bar and lounge. This year’s event will include more than 80 different experiences!
“High Street transforms into a high-end culinary destination for this one night. Fry’s Food Stores is a long-time proud supporter of Boys & Girls Clubs and this event allows our partners and customers to enjoy a fabulous night out and learn more about the work of the Clubs,” said Luke Stokebrand, Customer Communications Manager at Fry’s Food Stores. “I’m honored to chair this event because I know how every dollar raised during Dish It Out impacts 10,000 Club kids across the Valley.”
High Street is both chic and accessible, and its sophisticated urban vibe makes it the perfect setting for this tasteful and tempting event. With 35+ new and popular restaurant tents and individual tastes to explore and savor, Dish It Out guests can sample their way through the event.
This year, Mathew Blades and Pricilla Ornelas from iHeart Radio’s Mix 96.9 will host the event’s festivities. Local bands, including The Walkens and JTM3, will play live music throughout the night, plus there will be a special appearance from Lady La and her Mahalo Made food truck.
Each $75 ticket includes all of the food and beverages guests can enjoy, and the proceeds benefit the 16 Clubs around the Valley. There is also a $200 VIP experience where guests can enjoy premium wines, spirits, and foods, and relax in a VIP area that features additional games and exclusive entertainment. Best of all, VIP ticket holders can preview the event one hour early and explore all of the dining areas first.
“In the past few years, the Dish It Out event has raised more than $1 million to provide after-school and summer programs in some of the Valley’s most deserving neighborhoods,” said Marcia Mintz, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix. “Guests can feel great about spending an evening dining al fresco at High Street. It’s a great way to learn more about the work of Boys & Girls Clubs and have a night sampling all your favorite Valley places.”
How Your Night Out at Dish It Out Makes a Difference All Year
Living in poverty impairs physical health, emotional and mental health, brain development, and school performance. With around 25 percent of children in Maricopa County living at or below the poverty line, organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix can make a difference by becoming a support system for youth during these critical years. More than 50 percent of the youth served by BGCMP live at or below the poverty level.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix serves more than 10,000 K-12 members across the Valley through their premier after-school programs in 16 Clubs. Every year, the Clubs serve more than 330,000 healthy meals and 336,000 healthy snacks.
As a Club member, students can head over to the Club after the school bell rings and work on their homework with trained staff who can help them. Every Club member can also enjoy gym time, STEM programs, arts and music programs and so much more. With more schools trimming back or eliminating these types of programs due to budget constraints, the Clubs help fill the gaps.
Youth who are hungry or malnourished will not perform well in school. In addition to academic and recreation programs, every Club offers members healthy snacks after school and a hot, nutritious dinner. For struggling families, these savings add up. Many members enjoy dinner at the Club every night. Working parents can count on the Club to be open late and to provide care and good nutrition to their children. This means they can work, pursue their education or just get those small errands done before heading home, without worrying that their children are at risk.
