PVSchools is back from winter break and is in full swing!
In mid January Paradise Valley High School was abuzz with the top 4th through 8th-grade student spellers—from around the district—who were participating in the annual District Spelling Bee. The accomplished spellers gathered in one place to compete for the chance to attend the Arizona State Spelling Bee in March.
Superintendent Dr. Jason Reynolds welcomed students, staff and parents, and encouraged students to do their very best. He also thanked Paradise Valley High School and volunteers for making this exciting event possible.
This spelling sport was not for the faint of heart. With a 450-word School Spelling Bee study list to memorize, students also had to have a brief knowledge of the Words of Champions list, which had approximately 4,000 words. Needless to say, this competition was very a-r-d-u-o-u-s (adj. difficult, hard to endure).
PVSchools is proud of all the students who competed at the preliminary school and district levels. And a big congratulations to our district winner, Emelia Busby, 8th grader from Mountain Trail Middle School, and Runner-Up, Rohit Swaroop, 7th grader from Sunrise Middle School.
The Arizona State Spelling Bee is on March 15, 2025. The winner of the state competition will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.
In 2025, the Bee will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the very first National Spelling Bee.
