The Sonoran Arts League is committed to advancing art and art education with a special focus on mentoring youth.
According to the organization, they believe that arts training helps develop the ability to focus and strengthens cognitive skills in young people.
The organization offers free Youth Art Workshops on the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon at the Sonoran Arts League – Arts Learning Studio, located at 1700 E. Cave Creek Road. Each workshop is designed for participants in grades 3 – 8 and is led by an experienced art instructor who teaches basic techniques while encouraging the use of the imagination and inspiring the artistic spirit. These workshops are presented free to the community through the support of Kiwanis of Carefree.
Upcoming Youth Arts Workshops Include:
Saturday, March 13: Read My Beads
Create artistic bracelets or necklaces with your own personal message using alphabet, glass, crystal, and metal beads.
Saturday, April 10: Prickly Plants Recycled Art
Starting with a painted canvas (your choice of a sunset or a hot summer day), you’ll have the opportunity to play with mixed media, up-cycling bottle caps and found items into a cactus. This class is an experiment in using found items to create art by mixing media and exploring the shapes and colors of desert plants.
Saturday, May 8: Mixed Media Paper Collage
Create your own 8” x 10” mixed media paper collage on a canvas board. You’ll have your choice of “Jumping in the Ocean” or “Going on Safari.” Bring your imagination and creativity and leave with your magical creation, ready to frame. In this workshop we’ll use stickers, scrapbook paper, mulberry paper, and mod podge. You’ll create a fun, layered finished painting by layering torn paper and images to create your imaginary world.
To accommodate for social distancing requirements, each workshop has a maximum capacity of 12 participants. Pre-registration is required at SonoranArtsLeague.org or by calling 480-575-6624.
