HI, MY NAME IS… John David “JD” Hayworth.
I’VE LIVED IN SCOTTSDALE FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND I LOVE IT BECAUSE… of the people who live here and the beautiful place that it is!
A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE INCLUDES… a gentle “wakeup” from my bride that comes at 4 a.m. and then exercise from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. This is followed by reading, writing, and “show prep” to get ready for my new radio show weekdays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on KFNN, 1510AM/105.3FM…it’s called “All Right Now!”
MY FAMILY IS… fantastic! And it includes my lovely wife, Mary, as well as our three children, Nicole, Hannah, and John Micah.
ONE THING I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IS… coffee! It was the one “vice” that Miss Mary could introduce to me. And it certainly helps me wake up!
MY FAVORITE MOVIE I COULD NEVER GET TIRED OF WATCHING AND WHY IS… “Raising Arizona.” The Coen Brothers did “slightly twisted” moviegoers a real favor in writing and producing this cult classic, shot on location in our state, with much of the action occurring around familiar landmarks here in the Valley. It has a wonderful cast and great catch phrases that I still use: “Ok, then!”, “Hope to say…”, “Gov’ment do take a bite…don’t she?”, and, last but not least, “Say, that reminds me…”
WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I WANTED TO BE… the president of the United States.
THE SONG I WOULD SING AT KARAOKE NIGHT IS… the song that put George Jones on the map and atop the country music charts: “White Lightning.”
THE ONE PERSON WHO MOTIVATES ME IS… my beautiful bride, “Miss Mary!”
THE LAST THING THAT MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD WAS… watching “Raising Arizona” again.
THE PERFECT DAY IS… any day spent with family and friends, just having fun!
MY FAVORITE LOCAL NONPROFIT IS… Teen Challenge. It helps people with substance abuse problems discover “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”
MY LIFE IS… remarkably blessed. Few people have had the chance to do what I’ve done…become a TV sportscaster, who worked here in Phoenix; do radio play-by-play for the Chicago Cubs during spring training; serve 12 years in congress; become the first former constitutional officer to anchor “Election Night Coverage,” which I did for Newsmax TV in 2016; and now returning to local radio on KFNN!
THE BEST GIFT I’VE EVER RECEIVED WAS… the love of my parents, who encouraged me to believe I could do anything I set my mind to do; and the love of my wife and kids, who actually helped me do it!
MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE… free use of a custom jetliner, flying my family, friends, and me to any place we wanted to visit!
THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED IS… “Listen!” The source of that sage advice? Why, “Miss Mary,” of course!
