Hello, my name is… Kate Daigle
I’ve lived in Scottsdale for six years, and I love… how much Scottsdale has to offer! I can walk downtown, bike the canal path, or hike the Camelback trail. I love Thursday night Artwalk, Scottsdazzle, and Canal Convergence. I can take my horse on a trail ride in the desert, all without leaving town!
A typical day in my life includes… working with stray, sick, and injured animals at the Arizona Humane Society. I am a veterinarian and love the work I do. It is so rewarding to help an animal get well and find a forever home. After work my husband and I like to take a walk on the canal, often we head to Old Town for dinner. On my days off you can find me at the barn with my horse, Prima! I also take care of my elderly neighbor, and I enjoy going out to happy hour with my friends.
My family is… my biggest comfort and such a source of pride. I have been married to my college sweetheart, Mike, for 27 years. We love Arizona as a whole, and Scottsdale in particular. We plan to retire here. Our son, Adam, went to flight school and became a commercial pilot. He worked as a flight instructor at the Scottsdale Airport and is on track to graduate from Arizona State University this December with a civil engineering degree. I’m so happy he found a profession that he enjoys.
One thing I cannot live without is… time with my favorite animal, Prima. She is a lovely horse, and we spend hours on trails around Scottsdale. I enjoy taking her to Flagstaff in the summers, so we can cool off and ride in the pines. She is the best mental health imaginable, and such a joy to be around. We are both learning new skills, and recently had our first win at an eventing competition!
My favorite movie I could never get tired of watching is… Love Actually. I love how the story lines intertwine and converge. It’s happy and sad and joyful and heartbreaking—with a sprinkle of humor and songs. I watch it every Christmas, and anytime Harkins plays it on the big screen.
When I was younger, I wanted to be… a veterinarian. I have been around animals my entire life and could not imagine my life without animals in it. I’m so fortunate to have had a 21-year career (so far), and I’m still learning and improving my skills.
The song I would sing at karaoke night is… no song. My singing voice is best left to long car rides by myself. However, if I was granted a beautiful voice, I would belt out “Hello” by Adele.
The one person who motivates me is… My dad. He passed away several years ago, but I still remember the encouragement he gave me in my career and life. He counseled me to take leadership roles and push myself professionally. He inspired me to live life to the fullest now—don’t wait until retirement to travel and explore hobbies.
The last thing that made me laugh out loud was… A few weeks ago when my husband and I sat through an entire movie and wondered why it was blurry at times. We never asked anybody about it. Turns out it was a 3D movie, and we didn’t have the glasses. We laughed and laughed––oh well!
The perfect day for me includes… A morning horse ride, spa day at the Phoenician, happy hour and bar hopping with my husband, and walking around Old Town in the evening.
