The Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Authority (RPTA) unanimously appointed Peoria Mayor Pro Tem Jon Edwards to serve as the chair for the next year. The term for this office runs through June 30, 2021.
“This work of this Board is critical to meet the modern transit needs of our growing region,” says Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat. “Councilmember Edwards’ dedicated service on the RPTA Board has helped move key transportation projects forward to benefit Peoria residents and beyond. I am thankful that he answered the call to represent our city in this capacity through the years and I’m thrilled to congratulate him on this important appointment.”
Previously, Edwards served as the RPTA Treasurer and has served on the RPTA Board since 2015. Edwards is the councilmember for the city of Peoria’s Willow District.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as chair of the RPTA for the coming year,” says Edwards. “I am committed to working with each of my fellow board members as we work to further improve our regional transit system.”
Valley Metro serves as the regional public transportation agency, providing coordinated transit services to residents of metro Phoenix. Governed by a board of elected officials representing their member agencies, the RPTA plans and operates the regional bus system and alternative transportation programs for riders of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
