Get out your pumpkins, costumes, and spookiest decorations because Halloween is right around the corner! An exciting time for those with a sweet tooth and a love for all things ghoulish, Halloween can be quite the treat! For those with four-legged critters running around, however, Halloween means taking special care to make sure there are no tricks and only treats! Remember, our pets aren’t just at risk of getting into that bowl of chocolate… there are many other ways your furry friends can get hurt or cause mischief on this holiday. Follow the tips below to prevent a scare this Halloween.

Prepare pet-friendly Halloween treats
While we all know that our pets can’t have chocolate, that doesn’t mean our best friends can’t indulge along with us this time of year. Here’s a sweet treat you can prepare for your pets– in fact, you can eat them too! Feel free to adjust the recipe based on the size of your pet or if you have multiple pets:
1/4 c coconut oil
1/2 c peanut butter
1 tbsp honey
1 1/4 c rolled oats
1/4 c cranberries

Melt the coconut oil, peanut butter, and honey in a pot over low heat. Stir these ingredients together until they’re melted and then remove from heat. Next, mix in your rolled oats and cranberries. You can use fun cookie cutters to make Halloween-shaped treats, or simply form balls or circles on a piece of parchment paper. Simply pop these into the fridge until cool and then let your pets enjoy!

Dress up your pet in something comfortable
We love fun pet costumes during Halloween! However, remember that not all pet costumes are comfortable or safe for your furry friends. Make sure that the costume doesn’t restrict your pet’s movement and/or breathing. Your pet should still be able to see, hear, and bark/meow clearly. Some pets may find costumes stressful altogether. Still want them to join in the festivities? A cute bandana should do the trick! Have a safe Halloween with your pet!
