WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP WITH LARRY CHARLES
Tuesday, Oct. 8, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

In four Tuesday morning workshops, instructor Larry Charles will show you how to “paint what you see” in watercolor. This workshop series will have a special emphasis on problem-solving.

Each class begins with a detailed step-by-step demonstration from the instructor. Then it’s your turn to create the same image as he provides individual mentoring to each participant. Expect to create at least one quick sketch and one finished watercolor painting every Tuesday.

Whether you are a beginner or an artist in search of greater realism, this workshop series will guide you through color mixing, brush techniques, shading and more.

FUSED GLASS BEASTIES WITH YOUR BESTIE
Thursday, Oct. 10, 1:30-4 p.m.

Grab a bestie and create colorful, whimsical beasts together! In this class, you will create one standing fused glass and wire sculpture. Options include an owl, penguin, cat, dog, bird, moose, shark, crab or frog. Everything you need to complete the project will be included in the class.

DESERT FOOTHILLS LEADERSHIP OPEN HOUSE

GOURD SOUTHWEST ORNAMENTS
Friday, Oct. 11, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Create three different gourds that will add festive flair to your holidays. Use to decorate your home or gift to a friend. Instructor provides all materials, including acrylic paints to create similar designs in photos.

Start with choosing your black, turquoise bread, white, or natural gourd pre-colored ornaments. Then choose from plenty of southwest designs using acrylic paints to decorate your gourdornaments.

If you want to wood burn designs on your gourd, you need to bring your own wood burning tools. All burning must be done outside. Then after, you can bring the piece in to finish and color. This is a fun class. Gourdornaments make great gifts for your partner at bunco or the tie on a wine bottle to take to a Christmas party.

CREATE ECO-FRIENDLY HOLIDAY DECORATIONS

Create unique Christmas ornaments from sustainable, recycled materials.

Add eco-friendly cheer to your holiday decor. Create five handmade ornaments from re-used, recycled, and locally acquired materials from thrift stores, friend’s castoffs, and the teacher’s Cave Creek backyard. Hang your ornaments on your tree, gift to a fellow nature lover, or use as a holiday hostess gift.

These handmade one-of-a-kind decorations will create holiday cheer and promote a greener planet.

DESERT FOOTHILLS BOOK FESTIVAL
Saturday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Holland Center and Desert Foothills Library are proud to host the 3rd Annual Desert Foothills Book Festival. READING IS FUN! It’s even better when you come meet the Award-Winning Local Authors who write the books you love to read!

Have a blast talking all things book and don’t forget to get a signed copy of your favorite! It’s a great way to support local authors and our community, and the event is FREE!

SPOOKY STORIES OF SCOTTSDALE
Monday, Oct. 28, 1-3 p.m.

Enjoy stories of people in Scottsdale whose lives came to an unusual end over the last 85 years. Could these people be the ghosts that haunt the buildings of Old Town?

In partnership with the City of Scottsdale, the Holland Center is hosting Arizona Historian, Bruce Wall. Join Bruce and discover fascinating stories about Scottsdale including an early entrepreneur who was involved in a ghastly collision in northern Arizona and it took a year for him to succumb to his gruesome injuries. Second was the town Marshall who got horrible news and how he responded. Finally, a woman kicked out a boyfriend from her house but was tragically confronted days later.

2024 COMMUNITY FEST at HAROLDS CORRAL
