HEAL HER Art Show Illuminates Veteran Women’s Creativity
The Rio Vista Recreation Center showcases the inspiring work of veteran women artists during the 2023 HEAL HER Art Show. Located at 8866 W. Thunderbird Rd., in Peoria, the exhibit runs until Saturday, Nov. 11, and spotlights the remarkable talent of female veterans, both new to the art world and seasoned experts.
HEAL HER Art is a distinctive local initiative, offering therapeutic painting sessions aimed at helping women veterans relieve stress and express themselves through art. These sessions, both recreational and healing, have resulted in a captivating array of art pieces that now await the community’s admiration.
An important highlight of the event is the awards ceremony. Not only will the top three art submissions be recognized through People’s Choice awards, but there is also an exclusive Mayor’s Choice award. This special accolade will be bestowed directly by the mayor, adding a significant touch to the event. This ceremony is slated to take place right after the Veterans Day Ceremony held 8 a.m. on November 11 at the Rio Vista Recreation Center, making the day all the more memorable.
The exemplary framing of the displayed artworks is made possible through the 2023 Peoria Arts Grant. HEAL HER Art, as a proud recipient of this grant, has utilized the funds to give each art piece the professional presentation it truly deserves.
For enthusiasts, artists, and supporters interested in more details about the HEAL HER Art Show or looking to immerse themselves in this one-of-a-kind art experience, Bill Moss, the Arts and Culture manager of Peoria, is the point of contact. 2024 Utility Box Art Wrap Competition
The city of Peoria Arts and Culture Department is seeking designs created by area artists to cover traffic signal boxes throughout the city of Peoria. Selected artist designs will be printed on vinyl and wrapped around the boxes by a third party design fabricator. The intent of the project is to beautify the utility boxes, bringing art to otherwise utilitarian surfaces and giving artists an opportunity to develop public art experience.
This opportunity is open to artists, illustrators, designers, students, and otherwise creative community members residing in the Peoria area, working in any medium, as long as the final artwork can be translated and digitally reproduced on a 2-dimensional vinyl wrap. Up to 15 artists will be chosen for this round of art wraps. Artists can submit up to two designs. Signal box locations will be located throughout the city of Peoria and will be installed in January 2024.
All applications must be submitted through the submission platform Submittable at https://cityofpeoriaaz.submittable.com/submit/274239/2024-peoria-utility-box-art-wraps.
