Check out the fun activities and classes being offered this month by the City of Peoria to extend the celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day all spring long!
Join the Plant a Tree Challenge for the Arbor Day Celebration
The city is calling on its residents to help our community forest and shade coverage by encouraging desert tree planting until Arbor Day on April 30. If you plant a tree during our the challenge, upload your before and after tree planting picture to the city’s DropBox account found at peoriaaz.gov. The Plant a Tree Challenge ends on National Arbor Day, April 30. The city will announce how many trees were planted and contact winners of the prizes by May 5.
Water Awareness Month
April is Water Awareness Month! New Water Conservation Kits are available. Request a home water conservation kit at PeoriaAZ.gov to get items to help you save water, energy and money.
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Disposal
Improper disposal of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) can cause fire in our solid waste vehicles, contaminate our water system, and endanger our environment. Let the city dispose of HHW responsibly; they will pick-up hazardous waste from your home. Beginning April 12, you may schedule an HHW appointment at peoriaaz.gov/HHW.
Document Shredding Event
It is time to recycle your old documents! In celebration of Earth Day, the city will be hosting a Shred-A-Thon on April 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To learn more about this event, visit peoriaaz.gov/recycle.
Blue Lid Pilot Program
RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE! Peoria will be changing the lids on the recycle bin from brown to blue in two areas of the city. The new lids will have a list of acceptable items and will help improve our recycling rate while reducing the contamination. To learn more about this project visit peoriaaz.gov/recycle.
