Original series “Scottsdale” Premieres on June 6
VIM is rolling out the exclusive original series, “Scottsdale,” on June 6. This drama, created by screenwriter Anthony Bawn, a former North Scottsdale resident, revolves around an affluent desert family grappling with challenges beyond their control.
The plot centers on insurance tycoon and gubernatorial aspirant Henry Merrick, portrayed by Mark Whitis. Merrick clandestinely conspires with a local priest, Amir, brought to life by Joseph Penner. A character shrouded in mystery, Amir peddles a lethal drug, with a catch – prospective buyers must name him as their life insurance policy’s beneficiary.
Inspired by dramas like “Breaking Bad” and iconic soap operas such as “The Young and the Restless,” Bawn’s “Scottsdale” seeks to mirror the city’s reputedly upscale ambiance. It revolves around the well-known philanthropic Merrick family of Scottsdale, admired for their community involvement but also known for their questionable means of maintaining their status quo.
“Scottsdale” brings the city to life with on-location shoots in North Scottsdale and Chandler, and additional filming at Arizona Studios in Phoenix.

Photo provided by David Sharpe
David “PapaHugs” Sharpe, a local Grammy award nominated children’s musician, will be performing a free concert on Saturday, July 9, at 1:30 p.m., at the Desert Foothills Library, 38443 N. Schoolhouse Rd., Cave Creek. The concert will be a fun, interactive, and upbeat performance of all original “PapaHugs” music for children of all ages and their families
David Sharpe has performed for thousands of children around the country at libraries, children’s museums, festivals, and special events. His music comes from observation of all the wonderful and imaginative things children say and do. Many of his songs have been influenced by his experiences with his own children and grandchildren.
Since most schools today lack exposure to music, and music brings people together to express ourselves and use our imagination, Sharpe’s mission is to fill that gap with performances such as this one.
