Board Appoints New District 4 Legislator
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has appointed Dr. Eric Meyer to represent Legislative District 4 in the Arizona House of Representatives following Laura Terech’s resignation. LD-4 covers the north Scottsdale and Paradise Valley neighborhoods between SR-51 and Loop 101.
Dr. Meyer served in the Arizona House of Representatives for four consecutive two-year terms after being first elected in 2008 and served as Minority Leader from 2014 until 2016. He is a strong supporter of funding public education, having previously served on the Scottsdale School Board and the Budget Committee for the Scottsdale Unified School District. Dr. Meyer is also an experienced Emergency Medicine Physician who received his medical degree from the University of Arizona.
Board members selected Dr. Meyer from a list of three candidates submitted by LD-4 precinct committeemen, in accordance with Arizona law. The selected candidate needed to be a current resident of LD-4 and a member of the same political party as the outgoing legislator – in this case, a Democrat.
Dr. Meyer will serve out the remainder of the term. The position will appear on the ballot in the November 2024 General Election.
Mowing Down Pollution
To help improve air quality and reduce air pollution produced by gasoline powered lawn and garden equipment, the Maricopa County Air Quality Department (MCAQD) in partnership with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, created the Mowing Down Pollution program for residential and commercial equipment.
This lawn and garden replacement program provides Maricopa County residents an opportunity to replace a gasoline powered lawn mower and/or a gasoline powered handheld lawn and garden device. Participants receive a $150 voucher towards the cost of a new electric or battery powered lawn mower and/or a $50 voucher towards the cost of a handheld lawn and garden device at participating Home Depot stores after recycling gas-powered equipment at a participating drop-off location.

One-Stop-Shop Resources and Support
The 2nd-annual Senior Resource Fair offers multi-faceted tools and information — all under one roof — that seniors and their families need to help navigate the aging process and plan for the future.
This free event will be held on Saturday, September 21 from 9 a.m. – 1p.m. at The Holland Center, 34250 N. 60th St. in Scottsdale, and will feature informative booths, engaging speakers, and a supportive community for a wide-range of topics such as fraud prevention, caregiver support, staying active, in-home care, and navigating Medicare intricacies.
With a generous grant from BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona, this event, organized by The Holland Center, unites the expertise and dedication of local nonprofits and community entities that serve the aging population including Foothills Caring Corps, Neighbors in Need, and Foothills Food Bank. By synergizing the strengths of these community pillars, the Senior Resource Fair aims to address a wide spectrum of concerns with one-stop-shop access to resources and support in an inviting open-house style environment.
“The fair is really designed to primarily support the family caregivers and decision makers because we know how daunting the process can be,” said Jennifer Rosvall, Executive Director at The Holland Center. “We want to help dispel common fears and uncertainties that can feel overwhelming.”
