This year marks an incredible milestone for STARS, the beloved nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals with developmental and cognitive disabilities. Starting at 6 p.m. on May 13, at the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa, 5402 E. Lincoln Dr., STARS will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a spectacular fiesta filled with memories, live music, and a heartfelt reflection on their incredible journey.
From its humble beginnings in 1973 as an idea conceived by parents seeking a place for their children to find purpose and community, STARS has blossomed into a life-changing resource for countless individuals. The organization, which began with participants making quilts in borrowed spaces, now operates from two locations in Scottsdale, offering a range of programs designed to help participants achieve full-time inclusive employment.
“I am continually blessed to serve as the CEO of this wonderful gem of a nonprofit, and I am grateful for the prior leaders who contributed their time, talents and treasures over the past 50 years. STARS’ future is indeed bright, and I look forward to leading our talented team members into the next decade!” says STARS President and CEO David Henderson about the support the organization has received over the past five decades.
The 50th anniversary Fiesta promises to be an unforgettable evening, as participants, staff, and supporters share their fondest memories of being part of the STARS community. With the “Brighter Future” logo, created by STARS participant Tommy, serving as a symbol of their inspiring mission, the organization looks forward to continuing to change lives and empower individuals with disabilities for many more years to come.
