Nearly everyone experienced the feelings of isolation and loneliness during the global pandemic. Unfortunately, these feelings are all too common for the older adults in our community. Duet: Partners In Health & Aging is committed to helping aging adults stay connected and engaged through their vitally needed, free-of-charge services to homebound adults, family caregivers, faith communities, and grandfamilies.
When the pandemic hit, Duet adapted its services to continue serving the vulnerable older adults in our community. Duet volunteers grocery shopped for, instead of with, their paired homebound adult; family caregiver and grandfamily support groups shifted to virtual; and respite funds helped grandchildren stay active at home. Duet relies on the generosity of this community to support these free-of-charge services that are helping older adults to age with dignity on their own terms. Duet is asking for support during the Give65 Event to continue services and eventually transition back to pre-pandemic operations.
The sixth-annual Give65 Event, a 65-hour online giving event, is exclusively for charitable organizations serving aging adults presented by Home Instead Charities. The event begins at 6 a.m. PST on July 13 and goes until July 15 at 11 p.m. PST. Donations can be made to Duet at www.give65.org/duet. During the Give65 Event, Duet is also raising funds with the hopes of receiving up to $5,000 in matching funds from Home Instead Charities.
“Duet’s priority is to remain a vibrant source of help and hope for the thousands of people who rely on our services—especially seniors. Give65 allows us to help aging adults in our community while raising awareness of the critical need for the services they rely on to safely live independently,” says Tina Lopez, Duet’s director of development.
Duet’s vision is a community where every person ages with compassion, dignity, and hope. Too often, older adults and family caregivers feel isolated as they deal with the most overwhelming experiences of their lives. Duet eases the journey by walking alongside the people they serve on the path of caring. From giving rides to the grocery store and medical appointments, to offering health promotion activities, support groups, and personalized guidance and assistance, Duet is here to provide compassionate help to our community.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Duet for the sixth-annual Give65 Event and hope our partnership inspires greater charitable giving in support of older adults who rely on the important work of the charitable sector,” says Lenli Corbett, executive director of Home Instead Charities.
